JOB TITLE: HOME BASED TOWN PLANNER ROLE

TBD – first year
Full-time, Salary and Commission

Studio Charrette are expert planning consultants, architects with over 30 years’ experience. We are a national company that is growing exponentially with customers throughout England. One of our unique selling points is that we can help our clients with every phase of their projects including planning permission, architectural design, building regulations, project management and construction services. While we do residential and commercial projects our core business is residential developments such as extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions, new builds, change of use, appeals etc.

Currently we are struggling to keep up with excess demand for our services so are in the process of expanding our planning team and have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Town Planning Consultant to join our dynamic and rapidly growing business.

Primary duties will include:

We receive thousands of inbound enquiries each month from clients who need help with planning, design, building regulations and construction. Our sales team will qualify all enquires and set telephone appointments for you to conduct basic planning appraisals.

You will advise the client verbally and using a template complete a planning checklist for each client. The sales team will quote every customer and for each project won you will be responsible co-ordinating the preparation, submission and management of the application with the support of a planning assistant.

You would join a team of experienced planners and enjoy a great variety of projects giving you an opportunity to learn and progress or specialise if you excel in any specific areas. There is plenty of scope for rapid progression for the right applicant.

The role is a home based so there is a degree of flexibility but hours of work are generally speaking 09.00 to 18.00 Mon to Friday. Your income will be a combination of basic + performance related pay for each planning appraisal and project. As minimum you must be able to take at least 4 planning appraisals each day plus submitting and managing your applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

You must be RTPI qualified and while as long as you are qualified there is no minimum experience required, the package offered will be tailored to your skills and experience.

As this is a remote role you must be self-motivated, ambitious and able independently as well as within a team to deliver professional advice to our clients.

JOB TITLE: Architect

Responsibilities:

· To understand the design project
· To prepare, and develop where required, drawings, images and other documents relating to the design
· To assist where required in the coordination of the internal design team
· To take responsibility, where required by the project leader
· To liaise, with members of the external design team and other associated organisations or companies
· To seek, and record evidence of, continuing professional development (CPD) and an annual Personal Development Plan in accordance with the requirements of the RIBA
· To contribute, or otherwise assist, as required

Skills required:

· Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities
· Ability to understand and formulate design decisions and present for discussion
· Excellent organisational skills
· Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information
· Self-motivated and able to take responsibility
· Able to build good relationships at all levels, internally and externally
· Resilient to cope with conflicting demands, able to prioritise duties and work effectively under pressure while remaining calm and professional at all times

Desirable:

· Understanding of the architect’s role in the coordination and integration of project information and management
· Understanding of financial aspects of running a design project on time and on budget

JOB TITLE: Structural Engineer

Responsibilities:

· To understand the design project
· To prepare, and develop where required, calculations, analysis, drawings, diagrams, models and other documents relating to the design
· To assist where required in the coordination of the internal design team
· To take responsibility, where required by the project leader, for specific areas of the design and project development
· To liaise, where appropriate, with members of the external design team and other associated organisations or companies
· To seek, and record evidence of, continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with the requirements of the relevant professional Institution
· To contribute, or otherwise assist, as required by the Project Leader or Senior Architect, or nominated Engineer.

 

Skills required:

· Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities
· Ability to understand and formulate design decisions and present for discussion

JOB TITLE: Project Manager (London or Midlands)

Function & objectives:

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Project Manager will have full management control and accountability of the projects assigned. The role also includes assisting the pre contracts department in securing work and winning tenders.

Primary objectives are:

• To provide high level leadership, client visibility and strategic direction on the project.
• To manage the project staff thus ensuring the project is delivered safely, to specification, on time and within budget, so that the client is satisfied and the Company achieves or exceeds planned financial goals.
• To ensure that standards of excellence in construction project execution and safety are continuously improved.
• To act as the key interface and point of contact for the project, developing and maintaining strong relationships with the client, partners, suppliers and subcontractors

Responsibilities will include the following:

• To play a lead role in setting the overall construction execution strategy for the project, ensuring that a comprehensive plan is in place for each part of the project.
• To assemble, organise and direct the resources necessary for the successful completion of work, ensuring that appropriate teams are in place, with the right resources needed to meet objectives.
• To ensure that lines of communication are established and maintained to ensure the effective exchange of information and day to day liaison between the client, partners, subcontractors and suppliers, and anyone else involved in the project.
• To carry out regular site inspections and detailed project reviews on a regular basis, ensuring that all activities and deliverables are on track, and where necessary agreeing remedial actions.
• To ensure that sites operate to the highest safety standards, and are fully compliant with the latest HSE regulations. To ensure also that appropriate protocols are followed in order to comply with industry specific regulatory requirements.
• To provide coaching, motivation and support to the CMs and other project staff, and presence at client / partner meetings where appropriate.
• To ensure that the contract is fully performed, and that no amendments or variations are allowed without required approvals and sign-off.
• To facilitate speedy resolution of problems at the earliest stage possible.
• To provide regular reports to the Operations Director.
• To leverage his/her “network” in client and partner companies with a view to extending business relationships with them, and gain early visibility of new potential work.

Person’s Profile

This person will be an established Project Manager in a similar project-related construction services organisation, with a demonstrable track record of achievement and improvement in the following areas:

• Safety
• Excellence in construction project execution
• Leadership of site-based teams
• Client relationship management
• Financial / commercial performance.

This experience is likely to have been gained with a design and build contractor, and should ideally include exposure to managing turnkey projects.

This person will be a seasoned construction management professional, with the following competences, attributes and personal qualities:

• Strong and broad based construction knowledge, with significant site based experience.
• Detail understanding of Steel frame building erection and cladding.
• Advanced level planning and project management skills.
• Personable, presentable, professional image and stature, with presence and gravitas.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; able to build effective.
• long-term relationships both internally and externally.
• Good people manager, able to lead and motivate; a team builder / team player, used to leading site based teams and subcontractors.
• Organizational and planning ability – effective delegation.
• Quick to identify key issues and priorities, spot opportunities and risk, resolve problems and make decisions; intuitive nose for problems when visiting a site; able to operate independently and exercise discretion and initiative.
• Full appreciation & experience of design process.
• Commercial awareness and business acumen; knowledge of project budgeting and financial management.
• Knowledge of current HSE regulations.
• Creative/lateral thinker, with the ability to challenge established practice and identify effective improvements.
• Flexible, able to adapt to change, focused on client / partner relationships and teamwork.
• Personal stability, assurance, integrity, energy and the drive to “make things happen”.
• Firm but diplomatic, sensitive to cultural and political issues.
